Dearest journal,
It is my 111th birthday. I looked in the mirror today and found that I still look a good 70 years! However an adventurous spirit never grows old, although lately I must say I have been feeling quite old. Now that doesn’t sound fair, does it? I’ll admit it; I blame it on The Shire. I have lived many good years here, but I’m afraid my days of adventure have changed me. But I supposed afraid isn’t the best word for it – I’d say I am more than delighted. I crave a good journey. Maybe another war with a dragon or two, and to be honest I wouldn’t mind turning a couple more trolls into stone! Ah, to feel the face of adventure staring upon me once again – I would not only look it, but I would feel just like a young lad again! That is why journal, I have made plans to go to the Elves, in Rivendell to be exact. Can you imagine? The wonderful things that still lay before me! I can hardly sleep at night! My excitement grows far to great. I have yet to tell Frodo. Perhaps I shan’t? I see in his eyes a desire for adventure, although he does not know it yet. He is not ready, and that is why I believe I must leave without telling him. Perhaps one-day dwarves will come to his door and he will go with them just as I once did, but until that day comes, he is happy here in The Shire. I do not wish to take that away so soon.
Well journal, I have party business to attend to! It’s my job to make tonight once these boring old Hobbits will never forget. The next time I write I shall be feasting in Rivendell with the beautiful Elves.
