Dear Reader,
The reason I chose J.R.R Tolkien is because I feel he is one of the most influential writers that has ever lived. His works continue to be some of the best ever written today. Tolkien's life from the moment he was born to when he died was filled with a lot of interesting and intriguing events that persuaded me to research him. Tolkien's ability to create a vast a detailed world with it's own languages, races and maps are just some of the things that make him such a visionary. All of those reasons contribute to why this particular author is important to me, but the biggest reason and the first thing that made me want to write about him would be his amazing novels, The Lord of the Rings. These books, inspired by World War 2, show what the human mind is capable of creating - with just words alone. Not only are all three books my favorite story, but the movies as well.

Before i began this research project the only things I knew of Tolkien and his history was from the lord of the rings books that i have read. I was very surprised about how many things that I didn't know about him and how interesting his life was all the way to his death. Even to this day Tolkien is still very influential to many people including myself.

Once I started learning things that I never knew about Tolkien I wrote down some questions that i wanted to know about him. What was Tolkien's early life like? how many children did Tolkien have? what was Tolkien's impact on modern literature? what were Tolkien's other works of literature other than the lord of the rings and the Hobbit? and what influenced Tolkien to become a writer.
